This will be a walk from Duncansby Head, in Caithness, to Cape Wrath, in Sutherland, using a mixture of both road, coastal routes and a ferry.
I am 'doing' it to raise funds for a Portable Oxygen Concentrator (POC) and in dedication to my late wife Ros.
The POC is used within the home instead of the large oxygen bottles normally provided and is planned for use in the North Highlands. It will be located in Caithness General Hospital.
The approximate cost for a POC is £3,500. There is a specific fund account within the HIGHLAND HEALTH BOARD ENDOWMENT FUNDS which currently has £550 in it already.
Parts of the route will be decided on the ground as features/ obstacles dictate however and to give a sense of the scale of the task, (taken from other sources) the route by road is 114 miles and by coast it’s 181. My total distance will be somewhere in between.
Due to other commitments I will be undertaking this walk 2 - 3 times per week commencing at the start of May (2014) and ending on Sunday 1st June (2014), to coincide with the sad loss of Ros last year.
I will be 'doing' it mainly on my own apart from anyone who would like to walk with me from Duncansby Head to John O'Groats and on the final day across to Cape Wrath and the Lighthouse. Please note the ferry can only take 12 people. Places have already been booked for this walk so if anyone does wish to join me on this section I do need to know who and how many as soon as possible. There is also minibus that can be used both ways.
